The Director-General, Progressives Governors’ Forum, Dr Salihu Lukman, wants the All Progressives Congress, APC, to return to its negotiation skills of 2013 that gave the party victory in the 2015 general election.
In a statement, Dr. Lukman observes that since the end of the Nigerian civil war in 1970, the survival of the country has never been so threatened as it is now.
He explained that the agitation for secession, perceived marginalisation in political and appointive positions by sections of the country, and other issues of national concern required an exceptional commitment by the APC-led government to retain power.
Dr Lukman stressed the need for consensus-building by political leaders and involvement of the citizens in issues that could translate to equitable national development and recognition.
The Director-General stressed the need for regions of the country to avoid nurturing the desire to exclusively possess anything of value in the country to check the tendency of producing regional champions rather than nationalistic leaders.
According to Dr Lukman, it is necessary for political leaders, particularly the APC, to facilitate the process of political mobilization to ensure that the 2023 general election is conducted in a United Nigeria.
