The Lagos State Office for Disability Affairs, LASODA, has organised a one-day exhibition and talent hunt as part of efforts to improve the welfare of the physically challenged.

Many personal and household products, including beaded flower vases, key holders, ladies handbags, male and female shoes, clothes, soap and furniture, made by physically challenged individuals who had been trained at government vocational centres and by NGOs’s were showcased at the exhibition which was held at the Adeyemi Beero Auditorium in Alausa, Ikeja.

LASODA’s General Manager, Mr Dare Dairo said the event was in line with Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s development agenda of not leaving anyone behind.

Mr Dairo who pointed out that ability in disability had become an over flogged cliche, explained that it was time to showcase productivity in-ability and also boost the economy of productive physically challenged persons by connecting them to the market, both locally and internationally.

“These are goods that are export standard, if we can create better marketing channels, they can go far, turn these to more money, more patronage and of course, more income for people living with disability,” he said

The LASODA GM announced that the Agency is also partnering with the organised private sector and the Nigeria Disability Network to ensure that goods made by people with disabilities are not too expensive due to the fact that many of them pay more than they should when transporting the items to market places because of their physical limitations.

A lecture on how the physically challenged persons can market their products and how to access and harness opportunities was delivered, while many of the physically challenged persons who are not involved in crafts exhibited talents in singing, dancing and many other things.

The physically challenged persons were encouraged not to allow their circumstances to inhibit them but to be ready at all times to maximize any and every opportunity that comes their way.
