The Federal Government has extended the administration of second dose of the COVID-19 vaccination to 5th of July 2021.

The administration of the 2nd dose was to close on the 25th of June, 2021.

The Executive Director, National Primary Healthcare Development Agency, NPHCDA, Dr Fiasal Shuaib made this known at the weekly press briefing of the COVID-19 vaccination update in Abuja.

Dr Shuaib said the Federal Government was committed to ensure every eligible person in the country was vaccinated against COVID-19.

According to him, 2,099,568 people have been vaccinated with their first doses while 1,005,234 have received their second doses of the Oxford/AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine.

The Executive Director urged all who have received their first dose no later than May 13th to visit the nearest vaccination centre to receive their second dose as soon as possible, for full protection against COVID-19.

The Executive Director NPHCDA decried the frustration experienced regarding vaccine supply as there has been great inequity in terms of distribution.

The WHO country Representatives, Dr Walter Mulombo called on Nigeria to update its sequencing process to dictate the variant in the country, as most African countries are experiencing a third wave.
