A High Court of the Federal Capital Territory sitting at Apo, Abuja, has convicted and sentenced the former Chairman of the defunct House of Representatives ad-hoc committee on Fuel Subsidy probe, Mr. Farouk Lawan, to seven years in custodial facility.
Delivering judgement, the Judge, Justice Angela Otaluka, found the former representative of the Bagwai/Shanono Federal Constituency of Kano State, guilty of demanding an aggregate sum of Three Million U S dollars from the Chairman of Zenon Petroleum and Gas Ltd, Chief Femi Otedola, to give his company a clean bill of health in the fuel subsidy probe the House of Representatives initiated in 2012.
Justice Otaluka held that the defendant committed an offence punishable under section 8 ( Subsection 1) 17 ( Subsection 1) and 23( Subsection 3) of the Independent Corrupt Practices and other Related Offences Act.
The defendant was convicted on all three-count charges the ICPC preferred against him.
Justice Otaluka held that the sentence would run concurrently.
