FG to halt administering 2nd dose of COVID-19

The Federal government is to close administering the 2nd dose of COVID-19 on the 25th of June, while the administration of the 1st dose reopens today.

The Executive Director National Primary Healthcare Development Agency, NPHCDA, Dr Faisal Shuiab made this known at the weekly briefing on vaccination update in Abuja.

It would be recalled that the 1st dose of COVID19 vaccination officially closed on 24th May 2021 with 1,978,808 persons administered while 680,345 persons have received the 2nd dose.

 According to Dr Shuaib, the reopening of the 1st dose of COVID19 vaccination followed request by Nigerians to be vaccinated, hence anyone 18 years and above yet to be vaccinated are to visit the nearest vaccination site for the first dose of the AstraZeneca vaccine.

The Executive Director NPHCDA also advised all who had received their first dose at least six weeks ago to visit the nearest vaccination site to receive their second dose on or before 25th June.

He said Nigeria will receive 3.92m doses of Oxford/Astrazeneca by end of July or early August.
