Blood donation drops by 17% -WHO

Blood donation in the African region has dropped by 17% in the last one year due to the COVID19 pandemic, while the frequency of blood drive dropped by 25% and the demand for blood by 13%.

 The World Health Organisation, WHO disclosed this at its activities to mark this years Blood donation day in Abuja.

The WHO head mission and country Representatives, Dr Mulombo Kazadi stressed that the pandemic affected over seven million patients who required blood donation yearly.

 Dr Kazadi explained that since the launch of the DHIS2 module in 2018, developed for reporting blood safety data monthly, a total of one hundred and fifty thousand voluntary non-remunerated blood donation were screened between January 2018 and May 2021 from federal institutions.
