Road crashes, Congestion and Vehicle emissions are some of the major challenges in the road transportation sector.
There have been various efforts by plants and vehicle manufacturing companies to surmount these problems and to better guarantee safe roads and healthier environment.
The Vice President, Global Public Policy at General Motors (GM), Tom Cooney describes the company’s zero, zero, zero vision as part of a technical innovation that has assisted in combating climate change while ensuring zero crashes, zero emissions and zero congestion.
According to Cooney, the company is pursuing an aspiration to be carbon neutral by 2040 by focusing on the production of electric vehicles.
“We have made commitments to introduce 30 all-electric models globally by 2025, that is just four years from now”, he stated.
The company is investing 27 billion dollars from last year through 2025 into the project.
A number of vehicles are in the process of being launched such as the GMC Hummer Truck, Cadillac Lyriq as well as Bright-Drop delivery Van.
GM envisions a world with zero crashes, to save lives; zero emissions, so future generations can inherit a healthier planet; and zero congestion, so customers get back a precious commodity – time.
General Motors is also partnering with a global leading company in commercializing self-driving vehicle technology to further improve its products.
“We want to get everybody an electric vehicle. We are working hard, moving towards carbon neutrality, and building our own battery system,” he added.
Tom Cooney says, “We have recently signed an agreement with Dubai, in the UAE, to provide a robotaxi vehicles, which will also be electric. And that will be one of the first robotaxi fleets in the entire world.”
