Member representing Isuikwato/Umunneochi Federal Constituency of Abia State in the House of Representatives, Nkuru Onyejeocha says if passed, the Women’s bill now at the National Assembly would greatly improve the political fortune of women in the country.
Mrs Onyejeocha who stated this while receiving the award of ‘Female Parliamentarian of the year’, from the FCT council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, said the bill has passed Second Reading and would soon be going for public hearing.
Mrs Onyejeocha who was represented by her Technical Assistant, Adaora Onyechere, promised to sustain her support for journalism in the country.
The Women’s bill sponsored by Mrs Onyejeocha is aimed at creating 111 Seats for Women in the National Assembly .
Chairman, FCT Council of the NUJ Comrade Emmanuel Ogbeche who said Mrs Onyejeocha was honoured due to her vibrancy and effectiveness at the house of representatives urged the lawmaker to remain focused and continue to support the development of women whom he emphasised were the backbone of every society.
