The Member Representing Kabba/Bunu and Ijumu Federal Constituency of Kogi State in the House of Representatives, Mr Yusuf Tajudeen says the Nigerian Army needs better equipment and weapons, not additional manpower to tackle insecurity in the country.
Mr Tajudeen made the remark in an interactive meeting with journalists in the National Assembly.
The Lawmaker observed that the equipment will give the military the required motivation and zeal to face insurgents and other criminal elements squarely without hindrance.
He also called for the use of modern detective equipment’s at the nation’s porous borders to check arms smuggling and the influx of criminal elements.
Mr Tajudeen attributed the current security challenges in the country to the failure of the political class to provide the citizens with the required leadership in the polity.
According to the lawmaker, no individual is bigger than the state institution and until this is realized, nothing can be done right.
He also blamed the political class for failing to speak up in the face of insecurity and other national issues.
Tajudeen observed that some politicians’ excessive affiliation and loyalty to political parties is not helping to address the security situation in Nigeria.
