The Rivers state chairmanship and councillorship elections has kicked off.
The polls did not begin early enough as there was delay in arrival of sensitive materials from headquarters of the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC) in Port Harcourt, for various registration area centres (RAC) in the 23 local government areas.
However, materials started arriving the polling units from about 10:00am with few voters around to get accredited and then cast their vote.
Meanwhile, security men have been deployed to strategic locations in the state, to mount roadblocks and enforce the State Government’s order on the restriction of movement till after the election at 5:00 pm.
Earlier, Police authorities have deployed 17,500 officers to provide security before, during, and after the local government election in Rivers State.
