The Nigeria Bar Association in Anambra state have issued a seven day ultimatum to all the Governors of the Federation, particularly, Mr Willie Obiano to commence the implementation of the financial autonomy of the judiciary or risk mass protest.
Nigeria Bar Association, NBA in Awka, noted that if the governors fail to make trustworthy commitment towards the immediate implementation, they will have no other option than to join forces with the Judiciary workers and mobilize the public in a protest to compel government to fully comply.
Spokesman and Chairman Nigeria Bar Association, Nnewi, Mr Kingsley Awuka said that the ongoing strike action by the Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria has crippled the dispensation of justice in all the courts across the country.
He called on the governors to respect the Executive order number 10 signed by President Muhammadu Buhari for the interest of the nations democracy.
‘’That section 121 (3) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 (as amended) is clear and unambiguous. And that the judgment of Federal High Court, which interpreted the said section in a judgment delivered on or about 13th Jan 2013, is extant’’. Mr Awuka stated.
The Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria, JUSUN had embarked on a nationwide strike to press the executive arm of the thirty six states to implement the financial autonomy and independence of the judicial arm of government as interpreted by the Federal High Court, which has not been upturned by till date.
