The Federal Government has reaffirmed its determination to curb further jailbreaks across all the correctional facilities in the country.
The Minister of Interior, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola gave the assurance when he featured on Radio Nigeria Good Governance and Public Accountability Programme, “Have Your Say”.
According the Minister, the ongoing establishment of Six Correctional Facilities across the Six Geopolitical Zones when completed would provide adequate modern security gadget to help in tackling menace of jail break in the country.
Ogeni Rauf Aregbesola who reiterated the commitment of his Ministry to the safety of Inmates and Officers of the Nigeria Correctional Service explained that, there was a stronger synergy between Agencies under his Ministry and the Nigeria Military in the area of intelligence sharing, so as to improve on the security situation at all the Correctional facilities in country.
On the issue of decongesting the Correctional Centres, the Minister of Interior said, the Federal Government will not relent in its efforts to uplift the living standard of the Inmates.
Contributing to the Programme, Ada Onogu from Jos and Fidel Onyeneke from Imo state advocated effective monitoring policies across all the Correctional facilities in the country to avoid further jail breaks.
Also, Mr Andrew Ajayi from Akoko Edo in Edo state, urged relevant Authorities to be alive to their responsibilities towards the welfare of Inmates in the country.
