The South-East Governors have set up a joint security outfit code-named “Ebube Agu” due to rising insecurity.
The Chairman South-East Governors Forum and Governor of Ebonyi State Chief Dave Umahi made this known while addressing Journalists at the end of a one-day security council meeting in Owerri.
He said the meeting, attended by the 5 Governors in the zone, heads of security agencies and leadership of Ohaneze, a Pan Igbo group, condemned the recent attack at the custodial centre and police facility in Owerri, as well as the killing of security personnel, natives, farmers and herdsmen in the zone.
Chief Umahi said the Governors were on the same page with the federal government in the fight against terrorism and banditry.
He said open grazing has been banned in the zone and urged security agencies to implement the ban.
The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has floated a security outfit for the South East and South-South regions, christened, the Eastern Security Network (ESN).
It is unclear if the new group, Ebube Agu, will work in collaboration with ESN.
