Centre for Women Development gets new DG


President Muhammadu Buhari has appointed Dr. Asabe Bashir as the new Director General for the National Center for Women Development (NCWD)

In a statement signed by the Minister of Women Affairs, Dame Paulie Tallen, the new DG will take over the mantle of leadership of the NCWD on Monday, 12 April, 2021.

Dr. Bashir was in 1997 elected into Borno State House of Assembly and this same feat was repeated in 2003 and later appointed a member of Borno State Executive Council in 2005.

She was elected in 2015 to represent the people of Gwoza, Damboa and Chibok Federal Constituency of Borno state.

While in the National Assembly between 2015-2019, she was the Deputy Chairman, Women in Parliament.

As a lawmaker, she sponsored a Bill to ensure that all girls and children are taken off the street to school in the North, particularly, the North East.

Dr. Bashir has deployed a robust advocacy mechanism in ensuring that the vulnerable group in Borno, particularly women and children, were given adequate care and attention.

Dr.Asabe Vilita Bashir takes over from Barrister Mary Ekpere-Eta who has completed her term in office.

Dr. Asabe Vilita Bashir, remained a celebrated academic, who hails from Gwoza Local Government area of Borno.

She obtained her First Degree in Chemistry and Mathematics in 1988 at the University of Maiduguri and has a PhD in Educational Philosophy.
