President Muhammadu Buhari has directed relevant security personnel to identify and put to justice perpetrators of the recent deadly attacks in Ebonyi and Anambra States.
The affected communities in Ebonyi State are Egedegede, Obegu and Amuzu communities in Íshíelu Local Government Area.
A statement by the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Mr Femi Adesina, says President Buhari extends his deepest sympathies to families and friends of the deceased and every member of the communities in the state traumatised by the despicable acts of wickedness.
The President has also sent a message of sympathy to the former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria and a member of the Presidential Economic Advisory Council, Professor Chukwuma Soludo, who survived an attack by gunmen in Aguata Local Government Area of Anambra State, as he was consulting with people on his political aspiration.
Expressing concern at the influx of illegal weapons, President Buhari reassures Nigerians that ongoing efforts, which have led to the record recovery of illegal weapons and arrests of a large number of arms suppliers, would be intensified.
The President said the government will continue to empower the police and the armed forces in their brave struggle against terrorism, banditry and kidnapping.
The President’s prayers, according to the statement, are with Professor Soludo, and the families of the security operatives who lost their lives trying to defend innocent citizens assembled for a peaceful meeting.
