Federal Government Academy Suleja has won the second edition of Federal Unity Colleges Football Competition, while Federal Government Girls College Bwari won in the female category.
Federal Government Academy Suleja humbled Federal Government Boys College Apo 3-1 in the finals to emerge champions.
Presenting the trophy to the winners at the Federal Government Academy Suleja, The Minister of State for Education Mr Chukwuemeka Nwajiuba said the competition provides opportunity to showcase talents and ensure sustainable interaction amongst students to deepen their understanding of the country’s diverse cultural heritage.
Mr Nwajiuba represented by the Chair of principals of Federal Unity Colleges who is also the Principal of Queens College Lagos, Dr. Yakubu Oyinloye said a total of 15 matches comprising of seven for boys and eight for the girls categories were played, stressing that both of the categories were divided into two groups A and B respectively.
She said A’s played runners ups in the B till the star winners, first and second runners-ups emerged.
The Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Education Mr Sonny Echono said sports including football are very important for holistic education and healthy living.
He urged principals and teachers to continue to encourage students to play football and other games in-between academic activities to help identify talents especially those who may want to pursue a career in football after acquiring academic degrees.
The Director Education Support Services of the Ministry, Dr L. I Giginna said football inculcates discipline that would broaden the minds of the students to be successful in life.
The first Runners-up for girls is Federal Government Girls College Abaji, while the 2nd runners-up Federal Government College Rubochi and 2nd runners-up for boys is federal Government College Kwali.
