Cashew farmers have called on the federal and state governments as well as development partners to invest in Nigeria cashew production, processing and marketing through youth involvement.
The newly elected President of Cashew Farmers Union of Nigeria, CFUN, Mr Stephen Ahiaba made the call shortly after being elected national president of the union in Anyigba, kogi state.
He said government’s involvement in the initiative would create value addition for cashew, boost revenue and create jobs for the teeming youths in the country.
Mr Ahiaba said he would ensure the immediate commencement of cashew seedling production and grafting technology to increase cashew production and control in Nigeria.
While promising to create an opportunity for all actors to be included in decision making within the sector, Mr Ahiaba also promised to address the issue of multiple taxations, and cashew theft in the farms, warehouses and transits.
