ITF empowers 255 unemployed youths

Two hundred and fifty-five unemployed youths have been equipped with cutting-edge technical and vocational skills training to tackle the challenges of poverty and unemployment that is bedeviling our dear country.

The programme was organized by Industrial Training Fund, ITF and the Nigerian content and development Board.

The 6–month programme which was billed to commence in early 2020 did not start until August 2020 as a result of the disruptions caused by the COVID-19 Pandemic.

The Director General of ITF, Sir Joseph Ari said, for the trainees to acquire professional certification, the ITF implemented the programme in collaboration with three professional bodies, the Institute for Tourism Professionals of Nigeria, Nigerian Association of Engineering Craftsmen–COREN and CISCO Academy,

Sir Joseph Ari said the trainees were able to assemble the first indigenous GSM smartphone and that plans were under way to seek collaborations from investors to partner with the ITF to boost the innovation.

The Director General said the Centre has introduced Summer Boot Camp for children between the ages 10-15 and would give them hands-on training in Nigeria Cuisine, Pastry, Hygiene and Safety, Mobile Robot Technology, Electronic Circuit Design & Trouble shooting Technology.

The Director planning, Research and Statistics of the Nigerian Content and Development Board, Mr Patrick Obah, said the trainees have been equipped with skills in Industrial Automation and Mechatronics, Instrumentation and Process Control, I.T Essentials/ Comp-TIA A+.

Others are Mobile Phone troubleshooting and repairs, Electrical Electronics Technology, Building Technology, Residential Air conditioning, Mechanical Services and, Catering and event Management.
