Late Justice Wiafe Akente
The family of a fifty-seven-year-old domestic worker from Ghana, Mr. Justice Wiafe Akente has appealed to the Nigerian authorities to investigate his death in questionable circumstances in Lagos.
The family told Radio Nigeria that Mr. Akente, who worked at the home of an industrialist, Lanre Okoya in Victoria Gardens City VGC went to work on 7th March and did not return.
According to the wife of the deceased, Mrs Cecelia Wiafe Kente said the news of her husband came as a shock as he was not sick.
She decried the treatment meted to the family saying, a house help called her daughter to say her father had died without any call from the deceased boss, Chief Okoya.
The late Justice wiafe Akente’s daughter Francisca, an undergraduate said the house help who called to say her father had died, claimed that he died in his sleep.
A relation of the deceased, Mr Smith John who decried the attitude showed by Mr Lanre Okoya pointed out that his body was already decomposing, hence the need for his burial.
Radio Nigeria spoke to Mr Lanre Okoya, who denied all allegations, stressing that he had a good relationship with the deceased.
All efforts to get the Ghana’s Consul General in Lagos, Mr James Nyasembi to comment on the issue proved abortive.
Mr Justice Wiafe Akente was a driver to Chief Lanre Okoya and he occasionally slept at his boss’s house, whenever the need arose.
