2023 election: Centre calls for exemption of potential candidates

Centre for Credible Leadership And Citizens Awareness has advised politicians from zones that have produced presidents since 1999 to shelve 2023 presidential ambitions in the interest of national equity and cohesion.

In a statement made available to newsmen in Abuja, Director-General of the center, Dr. Nwambu Gabriel, explains that it would amount to insensitivity if certain aspirants from the regions who have enjoyed their share in the on-going political equation still present themselves for the exalted office.

Those advised to stay away from the race include former President Goodluck Jonathan, Vice President Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, APC National Leader, Bola Tinubu, Sokoto State Governor, Aminu Tambuwal among others.

Also advised to stay away from the race are; Rabiu Kwankwaso, Aliyu Wamakko, Governor of Kaduna, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, Governor Kayode Fayemi of Ekiti State, Mr. Chibuike Amaechi, and Godswill Akpabio.

While justifying his position, Dr. Nwambu explains that the nation is made up of 6 Geo-Political Zones of which the South-West, North-West, and South-South have all taken their turns since 1999.

According to Dr. Nwabu, the North-Central, the South-East, and the North-East are yet to enjoy the same privilege.

He urges the two major political parties in the country, the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to choose their presidential candidates from these 3 Geo-Political Zones that have not had the opportunity of producing the President.

This formula he maintains would stabilise the already tense situation and enhance the peaceful coexistence of Nigerians across the board.
