Ekiti Governor, Kayode Fayemi, with members of the Nigeria Medical Association
President, Nigeria Medical Association, Professor Innocent Ujah wants improved surveillance on activities of medical practitioners to address quackery in the health sector.
Unqualified persons have dented the image of medical practice, and posed a serious threat to society, Professor Ujah said in Ado Ekiti, when the association visited Ekiti Governor Kayode Fayemi and health facilities in the state.
He said a committee has been set up to liaise with federal and state governments to check the rate of death caused by deliberate mistakes by unprofessionals.
He also called for the harmonization of salaries of health workers, and the payment of Covid-19 allowances, as well as the establishment of the office of Surgeon General of the Federation.
Governor Fayemi, who is the chairman of the Nigeria Governors Forum, spoke extensively on issues raised by the NMA and promised to check unprofessionalism in the sector.
