The Federal Executive Council, FEC, has approved the construction of substations in Kano, Jigawa, and Benue States.
Briefing newsmen at the meeting, the Minister of Power, Alhaji Saleh Mamman, said the substations were located at Bichi, Kanya, and Zaki-Biam.
He said approval was also given for the extension of transmission lines to Abia and Imo States.
The FEC also approved the augmentation of the cost of construction of an 18.7 kilometre road in Bomadi Local Government Area of Delta State from 8.5 billion Naira to 9 billion Naira.
The Minister, Senator Godswill Akpabio, said the road was 97 percent completed, and that the final phase would be completed in six months’ time.
He said he had also obtained approval for the evolvement of a Strategic Implementation Work Plan for the Niger Delta Region, SIWP, to harmonise the various construction works being implemented in the region to avoid duplication of projects.
According to him, the proposed e-portal will be utilised to effectively monitor all works in the region, and enlighten the public about the sponsors of each project, saying that the Federal Government alone has completed over 50 projects in the region, whose commissioning has been delayed by Covid-19.
Similarly, the Ministry of Education secured approval granting leave for the University of Ibadan to acquire a new microscope to enhance research and education.
