Ogun State Judicial Panel of Investigation on police brutality, human rights violations and extrajudicial killings has recommended a police sergeant for prosecution for attempted murder.
The Panel said this during its sitting in Abeokuta, when the sergeant Gbenga Olajide admitted stabbing one Mr. Olusola Oladunjoye in the neck.
The Panel Chairman, Justice Solomon Olugbemi explained that it was also discovered that Sergeant Olajide had fraudulently gotten himself promoted to the rank of Inspector.
He ordered that Olajide be immediately handed over to the State Police Commissioner for investigation, orderly room retrial, and prosecution for attempted murder.
Mr. Oladunjoye had in a petition said the sergeant stabbed him at a bank in Abeokuta.
During cross-examination, however, Sergeant Olajide said after the incident, he was charged with discreditable conduct, found guilty, locked up for more than a month, and was also reduced to a Corporal by the Nigeria Police Force.
