Nasarawa State Government has called on the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN to entrench stronger synergy with small scale farmers in the country to access credit facilities as part of steps towards achieving food security.
Secretary to the Nasarawa State Government, Alhaji Muhammad Ubandoma made the call during an interactive forum between farmers and CBN in Lafia, the Nasarawa State capital.
The Secretary to the State Government, represented by Permanent Secretary, Cabinet Office, Mallam Usman Abu said agriculture remains one of the sectors with high potentials hence the need for CBN to ensure commercial banks provide credit facilities to farmers at single-digit interest rates.
Branch Controller for CBN Lafia, Mr Samson Isuwa said the Apex Bank would continue to provide a level playing field for farmers to thrive given their vital roles in the attainment of food sufficiency.
One of the farmers, Mr Yusuf Yakubu who was awarded by the CBN as the best farmer of the year 2020 stressed the need for the government to initiate programmes aimed at engaging more civil servants in farming.
