UN drums support for Nigeria’s digital economy

The United Nations Deputy Secretary General, Mrs Amina Muhammed has pledged the support of the global body to the country’s digital economy sector.

Mrs Amina Muhammed stated this when she visited the Minister of Communications and Digital Economy in Abuja.

She noted that Technology was the lifeline to all other sectors and applauded the National Digital Economy Policy which remained the key within the framework of the 2030 Agenda on the Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations.

The Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Dr Isa Pantami said the concerted effort of President Muhammad Buhari at diversifying the economy through various enabling policies, are already yielding results.

He noted that recent figures published by the National Bureau of Statistics which puts the Digital Economy sector ahead of others with a 14.7% growth in the 4th quarter of 2020 remained a clear indication that the sector was indeed advancing.

The Minister expressed his gratitude to the United Nations for its support through its partnerships and collaborations with organisations under the global body.
