The Federal Government has inaugurated inter-Ministerial Technical Committee to ensure acceptability of the nation’s produce and non-oil commodities across the globe.
At the inauguration of the Committee on Agro Zero reject the initiative, the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Alhaji Muhammed Nanono urged the members of the Committee to proffer solutions for the rejected products to meet international standards.
According to the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, the Nation’s Agriculture Policy Roadmap shows that Agriculture remains a major option to diversifying the nation’s economy.
“Our desire for standard agricultural products and non-oil exports means there will be the vigorous pursuit of investment in quality control and Standardization”. The Minister said.
Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Dr Ernest Afolabi, said the effort of the Committee would facilitate regional international trades.
“This will facilitate Regional and international trades, promote wholesome Agricultural Commodities for local consumption as well as enhancing market access within Africa and internationally to support the import substitution drive of Mr President.” He said.
The Director-General, NAFDAC, represented by Assistant Director in the Agency, Mrs Felicitas Anyanwu and that of Nigeria Export Promotion Council, also represented by Director, Product Development, Mr Williams Ezeagu stressed the need for quality assurance of local Commodities towards meeting international standards.
