Osun State has recorded five cases of the UK B117 strain of COVID-19.
The B117 strain which was first reported in the United Kingdom is said to be more deadly.
State Commissioner for Information and Civic Orientation, Mrs Funke Egbemode who announced this in a statement in Osogbo warned that the development calls for caution among residents.
Mrs Egbemode said it was worrisome that, barely a week the Presidential Task Force on Covid-19 announced the discovery of the strain in Nigeria, Osun already has 5 cases .
The commisioner noted the continued disregard and defiance for safety protocols, saying the new strain spreads faster and kills quicker.
“If it continues to grow, more citizens will become vulnerable and those with underlying ailments more endangered, she added.
