Oyo State government says more efforts would be geared towards ending Neglected Tropical Diseases,NTD,in the state.
Commissioner for health,Dr Bashir Bello made this known at a news briefing marking 2021 World NTD Day.
Dr Bello said the devastating impact of NTD,s on the people could not be over emphasized hence the need for people to come together to combat them.
The commissioner noted that the disease which affects over one billion people across the world is also endemic in Oyo state..
Similarly, Executive Secretary,Oyo State Primary Health Care Development Board,Dr Muideen Olatunji explained that four of the NTD,s cardinal in Oyo State are Onchocerciasis, Lymphatic Filariasis, Schistosomiasis and Soil Transmitted Helminths.
Dr Olatunji said drugs are being distributed to the affected local governments with support from Evidence Action.
World NTD day is celebrated on 30th January every year.
