The Minister of State for Transportation, Gbemisola Saraki has called Nigerians to desist from filling drainage channels with debris and refuse to reduce flooding or erosion related hazards.
The Minister made the call during inauguration and handing over of phase one erosion and flood control works in Pategi.
Senator Gbemisola Saraki explained that the Pategi erosion and flood control works was one out of the eighteen ecological intervention projects approved by President Muhammadu Buhari in 2018.
Saraki said that with the timely completion of the Pategi phase one erosion and flood control channels, the devastating effects of flooding menace in the area will be minimized.
She noted the inauguration further demonstrated Federal Government’s concerted efforts and sincerity of purpose in tackling problems confronting citizens and making life more meaningful to citizens.
The Permanent Secretary, Ecological Fund Office, Dr Habiba Lawal, pointed out that the project was initiated through request of Pategi Emirate to address the challenges of flooding and other environmental degradation which sometimes lead to loss of lives and property.
Some residents of Pategi such as Abubakar Baba-Nda, Muhammed Idris and Samuel Kolo thanked the Federal Government for coming to their rescue because many people have been rendered homeless with many farm land submerged.
The Ecological Fund office which is under the Office of Secretary to Government of the Federation has completed erosion and flood control works at three different locations in Pategi town namely Yidi road, Kara market and Wayata axis along Pategi General Hospital.
