Freedom of the press indispensable, AGF Malami says

Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Mr. Abubakar Malami says the Federal Government has done everything within the constitutional provisions to ensure the right to access of information, freedom of expression and freedom of press.

Mr. Malami, stated this in a keynote address at the 2021 national conference of the National Association of Judiciary Correspondents NAJUC, in Abuja.

Represented by his Special Assistant, Media and Public Relations, Dr. Umar Gwandu, the Minister urged media practitioners to refrain from fake news, axe-grinding, and sensationalism in its reportage of issues and events in the country.

The Minister also called on journalists to give balanced, unbiased and untainted reports of activities unfolding in the society.

On the Independence of the Judiciary and challenges of financial autonomy, the Minister said the Federal government had taken and maintained the lead in ensuring total autonomy for the judiciary at the national level.

The theme of this year’s conference is “The role of the Judiciary in achieving good democratic governance”.
