Elecorates in Kano have trooped out enmasse to exercise their constitutional right in today’s Local government election for chairmen and councilors.
Radio Nigeria visited polling units across Gwale, Municipal, Nasarawa, Kumbotso, Sumaila, Tarauni local government areas among others noting that the election process was going on smoothly with electorates undergoing accreditation and voting simultaneously.
An official at Wajila Islammiyya polling unit, Dan’agundi in Kano Municipal, said election commenced in the area at about 9 am.
Security operatives were also seen in large numbers and at strategic positions to protect electorates and ensure smooth conduct of the election.
Recall that the Chairman, Kano State Independent Electoral Commission, Prof. Garba Ibrahim Sheka had revealed that over 10,000 security personnel were deployed to ensure adequate security during the elections.
Similarly, the Deputy Speaker, Kano State House of Assembly, Alhaji Hamza Zubairu Massu has expressed satisfaction with the turn out of voters despite the COVID-19 pandemic.
Alhaji Zubairu Massu who stated this shortly after casting his vote at Massu ward Sumaila Local Government area of Kano State described voting as one of the tenets of democracy that gives citizens the opportunity to express their mandate
While noting that, the voting process at Sumaila was orderly and peaceful, the lawmaker urged the people of Kano to exercise patience and understanding even when results were being collated.
