Governors advocate better welfare for families of fallen heroes

Gombe State Governor, Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya has performed the wreath laying in honour of the nation’s fallen heroes who paid the supreme prize in defence of the country’s territorial integrity.

Governor Inuwa Yahaya equally inspected the guard of honour mounted by officers and men of the 301 Artillery Regiment at the Pantami township stadium.

This was contained in a statement issued by Director- General, Press Affairs Government House, Gombe, Ismaila Uba Misilli.

Speaking with newsmen shortly after leading dignitaries in the wreath laying ceremony, Governor Inuwa Yahaya praised the gallantry and sacrifice of the nation’s fallen heroes and those in service, saying his administration will continue to assist security agencies in maintaining law and order in the state.

He called on the citizenry to continue to show solidarity and support to the living and fallen heroes as well as their families to boost their morale.

Other dignitaries who joined the Governor in the laying of the wreaths at the symbiotic tomb of the unknown soldier, included the State Deputy Governor, Dr. Manassah Daniel Jatau, Speaker of Gombe State House of Assembly, Hon. Abubakar Mohammed Luggerewo and the State Acting Chief Judge, Justice Muazu Pindiga.

Others are Commissioner of Police, CP Ahmed Maikudi Shehu, Commander of the 301 Artillery Regiment, Major J. David, Emir of Gombe, represented by the district head of Jalo Waziri, Commissioner of Internal Security and the State Chairman of the Nigerian Legion, Gombe State Chapter as well as the representative of the widows of the ex-servicemen.

The Gombe State Governor also performed the symbolic release of white pigeons to symbolize peace, freedom, sovereignty and prosperity of the nation.

Governor Inuwa Yahaya had on Thursday, 14th January, launched the 2020/2021 Armed Forces Remembrance Day and Emblem Appeal Fund during which he announced a donation of 5 million naira on behalf of his government and another 1 million naira as personal contribution to support the families of the ex-servicemen.

Special prayers were offered by both Christian and Muslim military clerics for the repose of the souls of the fallen heroes and for the peace of Gombe state and the nation in general.

BORNO STATE

Borno State Governor, Babagana Zulum has assured ex-servicemen and their widows of continued support and assistance to ease their hardship.

The Governor gave the assurance at a ceremony to mark the 2021 Armed Forces remembrance day at Ramat Square, Maiduguri.

The Governor represented by his Deputy Umar Kadafur reiterated that he is aware of their of their predicament and will at all time render the needed assistance to give them sense of belonging.

According to him, he contributed ten million naira to families of the fallen heroes when the leadership of the Nigerian Legion paid him a vist, adding that more intervention will be provided to their members.

“We must therefore spare our time, resources and our blessings to remember these heroes always not just in January of every year but in our daily prayers and activities”

Governor Zulum commended the immense contribution of the military and other security agencies in tackling the menace of insurgency and other criminal activities across the country.

Some of the ex-servicemen and widows of they fallen heroes Staff Sergeant Jibrin Ali and Maria Yakubu called on the state government to come to their aid as they no longer have means of livelihood.

They also want the state government to provide job opportunities to their children to take care of their aged parents.

ONDO STATE

From Ondo State, Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu has appealed to the Nigeria military to collaborate with the community security agents to combat the increasing criminal activities in the country

Governor Akeredolu made the appeal at the 2021 Armed Forces Remembrance Day celebration in Akure, the Ondo State capital.

Governor Akeredolu argued that the collaboration would not only boost the military strength but would also enhance local intelligence to prevent crime.

The Governor implored the Federal Government to provide technologically aided equipment for the military to with the assurance that Ondo state government would also continue to assist families of the fallen heroes with generous donation.

Earlier, the commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Mrs Titi Adeyemi had solicited supports for the families of the fallen heroes to boost the morale of serving personnel and the living heroes,

EKITI STATE

From Ekiti State, Retired Officers of the Nigerian Army and wives of the Fallen Heroes want Governments to prioritize their welfare.

The Chairman, Nigerian Legion Ekiti State Chapter, Retired Colonel Adeyanju Olorunda and a Widow, Mrs Husnah Umar stated this in Ado-Ekiti at the Grand Finale of the 2021 Armed Forces Remembrance Day.

Retired Colonel Olorunda said that Government should take good care of the veterans by appreciating their positive contributions to the unity, safety, and progress of country.

The Commander, Ekiti State ‘Amotekun’ Corps, Retired Brigadier General Joe Akomolafe called on well meaning Nigerins to support families of the Fallen Heroes and urged Government not to relent at making lives meaningful to the Retired Officers.

This year’s Armed Forces Remembrance Day celebration was attended by the Ekiti State Governor Dr Kayode Fayemi, Represented by the Deputy Governor Otunba Bisi Egbeyemi, Chief of Staff to the Governor, Mr Biodun Omoleye, state Head of Service, Mrs Peju Babafemi, Ewi of Ado-Ekiti, Oba Adeyemo Adejugbe among others.

The programme featured laying of wreaths, firing of volley, 21 gun salutes, a minute silence, prayers for peace, unity and progress of Nigeria as well as inspection of the Guard of honour by the Representative of the Governor.

KWARA STATE

Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq has urged Nigerians to rally behind Officers and men of the Armed forces and embrace peace to ensure sustainable development in the country.

Speaking at the Armed Forces Remembrance Day celebrations in Ilorin, Governor AbdulRazaq called on the citizens to continue to offer support to families of the fallen heroes.

He advised the residents to continue to seek peace and believe in one Nigeria.
