One soldier has died during a gun battle with bandits in Faskari and Jibiya local government areas of Katsina State.
20 bandits were also reportedly killed.
The acting Director of Defence Media Operations, Brigadier General Benard Onyeuko made this known on Tuesday in a statement.
He said troops of Operation Sahel Sanity “dealt a blow on the criminals thereby forcing the bandits to withdraw in disarray into the forest.”
“Five corpses of bandits were found while several others are suspected to have escape with gunshot wounds indicated by bloodstains on their escape route.”
He said two wounded soldiers are in stable condition and currently responding to treatment in a military medical facility.
Similarly, troops deployed to Dan Ali village arrested a suspected bandits’ collaborator named Ya’u Tukur at Sabon Gida village in Kankara LGA of Katsina State.
The arrest, Onyeuko noted, followed reliable information that the suspect had “been aiding and abetting kidnapping for ransome.
Other arrests were made where AK-47s and ammunition were recovered.
