The General Aviation Terminal One, GAT, Murtala Mohammad Airport, MMA domestic wing Lagos, recorded a total of 551,380 passengers movements and aircraft movements, landing and take-off of 6,261 between July when the airport reopened to December 2020.
The Terminal Manager of the airport, Mr Adekunle Aderibigbe, in an interview with newsmen in Lagos said passenger turn out was encouraging despite the effects of the pandemic on the air travel sector.
He explained that initially, passengers turn out at the commencement of flight operations after the eased lockdown was not too impressive but it picked up during the yuletide.
According to him, airlines were able to manage the surge in traffic witnessed last December 2020 with the deployment of more aircraft to accommodate passengers.
The GAT Manager explained that non-compliance to COVID-19 protocols by some passengers remained a challenge.
He assured all stakeholders that safety, security and comfort of passengers remained their priority especially in compliance with the COVID-19 protocols adding that passengers who refused to comply would be forced to do so as directed by the managing director of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria.
Mr Aderibigbe stated that more COVID-19 facilities have been deployed to more locations within the terminal following the second wave while a compliance team had been set up to go round to ensure everyone complies.
