The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt. Gen. Tukur Buratai has extended the period of the Operation Sahel Sanity to March 2021 to enable the troops to clear the remnants of the bandits in the Northwest region.
Lt. Gen.Tukur Buratai who was on an assessment visit on Tuesday to Special Army Super Camp 4, Faskari stressed that banditry has reduced drastically.
The information unit of the camp briefed the COAS on the breakthrough of the exercise Sahel Sanity from July to December 2020 to include 210 bandits neutralized, 326 suspected bandits arrested, the arrest of 46 logistics suppliers and 11 rustled cattle Buyers.
During the period, the troops also recovered 70 AK47 Rifles, 191 Dane Guns, 4,987 of 7.62mm special ammunition and rescued 619 kidnap victims including the recently rescued 344 students of Government Science Secondary School Kankara in conjunction with other security agencies as well as recovery of 7,668 Cows and 1,842 Sheep.
The Chief of Army Staff also commended officers and men of the exercise for professionalism and the successes recorded.
He, however, charged the troops to remain committed and continue the onslaught on the bandits until normalcy is restored.
