Reps decry low funding for information sector

Chairman House Committee on Information, National Orientation, Ethics and Values, Mr Olusegun Odebunmi during the committee’s oversight visit to NAN.

The House of Representatives say it will ensure accountability of funds appropriated to Ministries, Departments and Agencies.

The Chairman, Committee on Information, National Orientation, Ethics and Values, Mr Olusegun Odebunmi stated this during its oversight visits.

At the Voice of Nigeria office, Mr Odebunmi who inspected the facilities of the new office in Wise II, Abuja, expressed concern over poor funding of the information sector.

According to the Lawmaker, proper funding would make those agencies contribute greatly to the country’s fight against insurgency and criminality.

The Director-General of the Voice of Nigeria, Mr Osita Okechukwu, solicited for legislative measures that would reduce the proliferation of Radio and TV Broadcasting Stations among government’s agencies.

He said establishing these stations were waste and duplication of responsibilities

At the News Agency of Nigeria, the committee Chairman who faulted the low revenue generation of the agency and urged them to improve on their services.
