The All Progressives Congress (APC), Zamfara State Chapter says it will drag the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and the Inspector General of Police to court, over the recently concluded Bakura bye-election.
This was announced by the Chairman, Publicity Committee of the Party, Alh. Ibrahim Muhammad Birnin-magaji during a Press Briefing in Gusau.
Ibrahim Birnin-magaji alleges that INEC compromised during the bye election, saying results of the election of 5th December 2020 of over 30 polling units/voting points in Rini, Birnin Tudu, Bakura and Yargeda wards were cancelled during the exercise by the electoral commission but 14 polling units were randomly selected later for the supplementary bye-election.
According to him, some security operatives were used in intimidation, vote buying and ballot box snatching. Alh. Ibrahim Muhammad added that, some political party members were presently in the custody of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) Sokoto Zonal Office for alleged Vote buying during the 9th December supplementary election.
The Chairman of the APC Publicity committee said several complaints were written to INEC for irregularities observed during the exercise no positive response was received, even as the INEC also admitted to the complaints as contained in a press release signed by INEC’s National Commissioner, Chairman Information and Voters Education, Mr. Festus Okoye on 6th December, 2020.
