INEC set for Saturday’s bye-elections in Borno, Plateau

The Independent National Electoral Commission INEC says it is set for Saturday’s bye-elections in Bayo and Nganzai constituency in Borno state.

The Resident Electoral Commissioner, Alhaji Mohammed Ibrahim told newsmen in Maiduguri on Thursday that 710 ad-hoc staff have been recruited for the polls.

He said non-sensitive materials have been dispatched to the two local government areas, as movement of sensitive materials will start on Friday.

14 candidates from 7 political parties are expected to participate in the exercise.

The seats became vacant following the death of the two assembly members in May this year.

Similarly, INEC distributed sensitive materials for Saturday’s bye-elections in Plateau South Senatorial zone.

The Resident Commissioner, Malam Halilu Pai, said security personnel would escort the materials to polling units.

A party agent, Mr. Pam Gyang observed 2 torn cartons of ballot papers, but later all stakeholders present expressed satisfaction, after they opened them and counted the accuracy of the items.
