FG launches financial aid for commercial transporters

Minister of State for Industry, Trade and Investment, Ambassador Mariam Katagum has launched a Transport Track of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises, MSME, in Abuja on Monday.

Over one hundred and fifty thousand commercial transport operators will benefit from the Federal Government’s Economic Sustainability and Survival Fund Scheme to cushion the effect of Covid-19 on their businesses.

Director, Industrial Development in the Ministry, Mr Adewale Bakare, who represented the minister said the scheme would give qualified transporters N30,000 one off grant, to ensure their businesses stay afloat.

Beneficiaries include commercial drivers, keke napep (tricycle) riders and truck pushers.

The Project Coordinator and Special Assistant to the President on MSMEs, Mr. Tola Johnson urged beneficiaries to be weary of fraudsters who demand for payment from applicants.

He said government was paying directly into individuals account and was not using any third party.

Some unions leaders under the Transport Sector, Mr. Musa Ibrahim and Mr. Lawrence Fadipe commended the federal government for the scheme.
