INEC insists on use of card reader in Imo

The Independent National Electoral Commission INEC has urged electoral officials and security agents to maintain neutrality ahead of the conduct of the December 5, 2020 Imo North Senatorial district bye-election.

The Acting Chairman of the Commission, Air Vice Marshal Ahmed Mu’azu (retd) gave the charge in Owerri during a consultative meeting with Heads of Security and Paramilitary agencies as part of measures to ensure a hitch-free election.

He gave an assurance that the commission was doing everything it could to ensure free, fair and credible election in the district.

Air Vice Marshal Mu’azu warned that any attempt to resist the use of smart card readers will earn a zero vote in the affected polling unit and called on political parties to be guided by the rules.

The Commissioner of Police Imo State Command, Mr. Isaac Akinmoyede represented by a Deputy Commissioner of Police, Mr. Rabiu Useni urged political parties to play according to the rules noting that security agencies were determined to ensure hitch-free outing.

Our correspondent reports that a situation room made up of representatives of security agencies, NYSC and the National Orientation Agency will be activated at INEC office in Owerri to monitor activities before, during and after the election.
