BOSIEC concludes plan to conduct LGA election

The Borno State Independent Electoral Commission, BOSIEC says it has concluded arrangement for the smooth conduct of Saturday’s local government election for the first time in more than ten years.

Briefing newsmen in Maiduguri, Executive Chairman of the Commission, Alhaji Abdu Usman said elections would be conducted in 24 local governments, while the remaining three, Abadam, Guzamala and Marte will be held in IDP camps.

He also announced that elections will be conducted in Baga town to enable returnees participate in the exercise.

According to Alhaji Usman six political parties have fielded candidates for the chairman and councillorship positions in nine local governments, will the remaining 18 local governments will be unopposed with only APC candidates.

He allayed fears of political parties that the umpire will be neutral and unbiased and is committed to conduct free, fair and credible polls.

“I want to strongly appeal to the electorate to please come out en mass to exercise their franchise. They should vote for candidates of their choice without fear of intimidation or harassment as law enforcement agents will be around to avoid the breach of peace”.

Meanwhile, the Borno state Command of Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps NSCDC says it will deploy one thousand five hundred personnel for then local government polls.

Briefing newsmen, the state Commandant Abdullahi Ibrahim explained that the personal will include armed, unarmed and undercover to provide robust security in the state.

He called on political parties and their candidates to conduct themselves throughout the period of the election, as the command will not condone any security breach.
