Fourteen of the eighteen registered political parties will be participating in the re-scheduled Imo North senatorial district election taking place on the 05, December 2020.
INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner, in Imo State Professor Francis Ezeonu, said more than three thousand duly trained staff would be deployed to conduct the election in seven hundred and ten voting points spread across the six local government areas of Imo North senatorial district.
He said the bye-election would be conducted in strict compliance to COVID-19 protocols noting that pharmaceutical materials like hand sanitizers and methylated spirit have been procured for use at the voting centres.
Professor Ezeonu explained that smart card readers for the election were ready for use and urged those who wish to monitor the outcome of the exercise to sign on to INEC result portal for the real-time posting of figures.
He noted that though INEC office at Ehime Mbano local government area of the state was razed by hoodlums during the #End Sars# protest, steps have been taken to replace non-sensitive materials and other necessary equipment that were lost during the incident.
The Resident Electoral Commissioner added that arrangement has been concluded to ensure adequate security of lives during and after the election.
