Chairman, Peoples’ Democratic Party Governors Forum Alh. Aminu Tambuwal says efforts being made to restructure Nigeria although desirable, are unlikely to succeed without the National Assembly.
Alhaji Tambuwal who is also the Governor of Sokoto State, stated this during the plenary session of the 26th Nigerian Economic Summit tagged, ‘Building partnerships for resilience,’ in Abuja.
The governor said the nation must avoid a repeat of the mistake of 2015 when a robust attempt by the House of Representatives to amend the constitution was rejected at the last minute.
Alhaji Tambuwal who spoke alongside Governor Kayode Fayemi of Ekiti State, Chief Executive Officer MainOne, Funke Opeke; and the CEO, GIG Group, Chidi Ajaere observed that the constitutional conferences championed by Presidents Olusegun Obasanjo and Goodluck Jonathan failed largely because their resolutions were not translated into legislation.
Alhaji Tambuwal who was the Speaker of the House of Representatives, during the attempt to amend the constitution in 2015 said provisions and ways of amending the constitution were embedded in the constitution.
