Gov AbdulRazaq tasks religious leaders on peace

Religious leaders in Kwara State have been urged to help maintain peace and harmony in the state through their sermons and admonitions.

Kwara State Governor, Malam Abdulrahmanan AbdulRazaq made the appeal when he met with religious leaders that comprised the leadership of the Council of Ulama and the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) at the Government House, Ilorin.

Governor AbdulRazaq who had held similar consultative meetings with various stakeholders, including security agencies in the state in the last two weeks, said the meeting was part of strategies for capacity building on peace and security in the state.

He emphasized that without peace, there cannot be development, as peace is the foundation on which development is built.

Speaking on behalf of the Muslim community, former Grand Kadi of the State, Retired Justice Saliu Muhammad, said the meeting was a welcome development, as it underscored the importance the governor attached to consultations.

Also speaking on behalf of the Christian community in the state, Vice Chairman Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN Kwara State, Reverend Sunday Adewole commended Governor AbdulRazaq for the initiative which he said showed his belief in participatory governance.

The Governor later met with various women groups that comprised professional bodies, market women, politicians, and female grassroots leaders from across the state.
