Youths in Nasarawa State have called for the establishment of a Youth Development Commission and a special budgetary allocation as part of steps towards youth engagement in governance.
Youth groups under the aegis of Coalition of Nasarawa State Youths made the call during a peaceful rally in Lafia.
Presenting a Communiqué, state Chairman National Youth Council of Nigeria, Mr Idris Ojoko said the Youth Development Commission which is to be established under law will serve as a template for youths to showcase their potentials and be fully involved in leadership positions in governance.
Mr Ojoko also stressed the need for the state government to continue to engage youths discussions and decision making especially on addressing critical issues affecting the youths.
The Deputy Governor of the state Dr. Emmanuel Akabe who addressed the youths on behalf of Governor Abdullahi Sule commended them for conducting themselves peacefully to present their demands.
Dr. Emmanuel Akabe said the Government would support every genuine initiative by the youths aimed at moving the state forward.
