The Federal Government has been urged to create enabling environment for drug manufacturers to produce locally to make them cheaper for those in need of medication.
Speaking at the 2020 press week programme of the Correspondents’ Chapel of the Kwara state council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) in Ilorin ,a medical expert ,Dr. Aderibigbe Ayodele, advocated the collaboration of all to support government in this direction.
According to him the vaccines administered on children in government hospitals are donated to the country for free.
He urged the federal government to engaged pharmaceutical companies to produce drugs locally to make them affordable.
Dr. Ayodele appealed to government to strengthen regulatory bodies to ensure that drugs manufactured in Nigeria contain advertised ingredients.
In a remake on the occasion , Kwara state Commisssioner for Communication, Harriet Afolabi-Oshatimehin advised journalists to pay adequate attention to their health, adding that early detection of sickness saves lives.
