The National Human Rights Commission has inaugurated a 7-man Independent panel of investigation into the allegations of human rights violations against SARS.
The panel is to investigate all allegations of human rights violations and abuse of power by the defunct SARS and other units of the Nigeria Police Force.
It will also determine the damages or compensation payable to victims of police brutality.
The Executive Secretary of the commission, Mr Tony Ojukwu who inaugurated the panel, read out other areas the panel would look into.
The Panel made up of experts and representatives from the Civil Society as well as the Nigerian Youths, is to be chaired by a retired Justice of the Supreme Court, Justice Suleiman Galadima.
Justice Suleiman who spoke on behalf of members of the panel promised to do a thorough job.
The National Human Rights Commission had between 2006 to 2018 conducted three separate investigations into allegations of human rights violations by SARS and other units of the Nigeria Police Force and recommendations submitted to the Federal Government since then.
