Nigeria Communications Commission, NCC has presented a policy document for the implementation of the Nigeria National Broadband plan to the industry stakeholders.
At the occasion, which is the first Stakeholders consultation on implementation of the Nigeria National Broadband Plan 2020-2025, the Minister of Communication and Digital Economy, Dr Isa Pantami noted that broadband penetration is one of the four ingredients needed to achieve digital economy
The document among other target seeks coverage of 90 per cent 4G mobile at the speed of 25 megabytes per second for 70 per cent of eligible persons by 2025.
The Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Dr Pantami noted that the success of the plan depended largely on the cooperation of stakeholders, stressing that everyone has an important role to play in its implementation.
The minister submitted that the Federal Government will ensure that any impediments that may stand in the way of the plan would be tackled.
Presenting the document to captains of Industry, the Executive Vice Chairman, Nigerian Communication Commission, Professor Garba Danbatta pointed out that the Federal Government had hit the ground running to ensure that all targets set for the plan were actualized.
The President Association of telecommunication companies in Nigeria, Mr Olusola Teniola who remarked that players in the industry considered the document as a welcome development called on stakeholders to ensure mobilisation of resources for the actualization of the 5-year strategy
Earlier, the Chairman, Broadband Implementation Steering Committee and Executive Commissioner Technical Service, Engr Ubale Maska said the plan included roles of all stakeholders, governance structure, timeline and implementation plans.
