A Civil Society Organisation, Paradigm Leadership Support Initiative says data from the 2017 Federal Audit Report indicates that N9.7bn is yet to be accounted for on 32 projects approved by the federal government.
The Executive Director, PLSI Mr Olusegun Elemo stated this in Abuja on Friday, while presenting a publication titled Value for Money Handbook, which provided summary and simplified analysis of audited developmental projects captured in FGs 2017 audit report.
Mr Elemo said the N17bn projects, meant for implementation in 17 states, including the Federal Capital Territory, were awarded to various contractors, while about N9.7bn was not accounted for.
He said the 2017 report showed an increase, compared to N6.8bn in 2016, indicating that accountability in the utilization of public funds was getting worse.
Mr Olusegun advocated for a modern Audit law to empower the Office of the Auditor-General for the Federation to play a more effective role in ensuring that public funds begin to work for citizens.
