Benue State Governor Samuel Ortom has appealed to the Academic Staff of Universities, ASUU to end its face off with the Federal Government so that universities can resume in the interest of the students.
He appealed when a delegation of National Union of Benue State Students, NUBESS paid him a visit at Government House, Makurdi to register their protest over the ongoing ASUU strike.
Governor Ortom said the IPPIS policy of the Federal Government which ASUU was refusing to accept has saved Government billions of Naira since it inception and stressed the need for the union to accept the policy.
Speaking on the END SARS protests, Mr Ortom urged the Federal Government to carry out an extensive reformation of the police by consulting critical stakeholders and not just to disband SARS and name another police unit.
The Governor told the students that the fifty million naira he had earlier approved for their scholarship has been released to the scholarship board and directed the commissioner of education to ensure that the students are paid.
President, National Union of Benue State Students, Mr Joshua Tiv appealed to Governor Ortom and other leaders to intervene in the face off between ASUU and the Federal Government to save the students.
